Chamber Ensembles

Chamber ensembles provide an opportunity for music majors to study and perform chamber music (generally works for three or more instruments) with a faculty coach. There is at least one public performance by each group during the semester. Qualified non-music majors may be permitted to register for chamber music with instructor permission following an audition.

Registering for Chamber Music Mus 3440 or Mus 5440

1. All students must first register for Mus 440 under the section number corresponding to your instrument. (This is a no-credit registration so there is no fee.) This should be done as early as possible, but no later than the first week of the semester.

2. Fill out the online form. (Each student must submit a form, even if multiple students are listed on one form.)  New students must submit this form by the end of the first week of the semester. Continuing students should submit the form during the registration period of the preceding semester.

3. Your chamber music coordinator will assign you to a group and coach by the 2nd week of classes. [Note: Pianists who wish to do piano duos or duets should contact their piano instructor for a partner and a coach.]

4. As soon as you have been assigned, you will receive permission to register, along with the correct course and section number(s) via email. You will then need to register before the add/drop deadline.

5. String majors who are fulfilling the chamber music requirement for their degree are encouraged to concurrently enroll in the Chamber Music Literature course, when available. Please contact the instructor of the course for more information. They are also required to perform on the final Chamber Music Recital at the end of the semester (unless they perform on a degree recital during the semester).
