West Bank Arts Quarter

Welcome from the Director

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to the people and programs of the University of Minnesota School of Music. For more than a century the School of Music has been committed to providing the finest education and experience in the creation, performance and study of music in all its diverse forms.

Whether your interest is in performance, composition, theory, musicology or music education, there is much to find here. Our faculty is comprised of world class performing artists, composers, scholars and teachers. In addition, we draw on the rich musical resources of the Twin Cities with affiliate faculty from The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra.

The School of Music is an exciting, vibrant place where more than 300 performances are presented by students, faculty and guests each year. We take great pride in the quality of the individual recitals given by our students, as well as the concerts given by our chamber music program, instrumental ensembles, choirs and opera theatre. Most of these events are free of charge and open to the public. We welcome tens of thousands of music lovers to the West Bank Arts Quarter each year to attend concerts in Ted Mann Concert Hall and Lloyd Ultan Recital Hall.

Our programs, combined with unparalleled opportunities to collaborate with the other disciplines in the West Bank Arts Quarter, will excite and invigorate your interest in music. We hope that you will use this website to find information about our world-class University in an easily accessible and convenient manner. Our faculty and staff welcome your interest and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about our programs.

Sincerely,

Jerry Luckhardt
Interim Director
