David Baldwin

David Baldwin

Professor: Trumpet

David Baldwin is professor of trumpet at the University of Minnesota School of Music. He conducts the University Brass Choir, an eighteen-piece ensemble which has several recordings to its credit, including two compact discs.

From 1969 to 1971 Dr. Baldwin was a member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, New York. He has performed with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera, and is a member of the Bach Chamber Players of Saint Paul.

Dr. Baldwin is the leader of the Summit Hill Brass Quintet. This group has two compact discs of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, all selections transcribed by David Baldwin, released on Aurophon Recordings of Breisgau, Germany. The quintet also has a compact disc-Music for Al's Breakfast-including four compositions by Dr. Baldwin. The have recently released American as Apple Pie— a lively collection of all-American music.

Baldwin has been a past secretary and member of the board of directors of the International Trumpet Guild. This organization sponsored the release of Baldwin's solo recording of the etudes of Theo Charlier and Marcel Bitsch in a double CD set. He has had over fifty arrangements and compositions published by G. Schirmer, Shawnee Press, Kjos, and others.

Dr. Baldwin received his B.M. degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and his M.M., M.M.A., and D.M.A. degrees from Yale University.
